N°5, the essence of femininity.
A powdery, floral bouquet, sublimated by an iconic, minimalist bottle. A mythical and timeless perfume.
In 1921, Gabrielle Chanel asked Ernest Beaux to design a special and intense "perfume for women with a feminine scent". The 'nose' lets her smell a visionary composition in which aldehydes were used for the first time. Mademoiselle prefers version number 5 of the perfume, and decides to continue using this number as its name. For this new perfume she chooses a completely new bottle, with a white label and a faceted stopper. In 1986, Jacques Polge, CHANEL's 'nose' since 1978, reinterpreted the composition of his predecessor to create a fuller version of N°5: the eau de perfume.
The eau de perfume is inspired by the perfume, with which it shares the characteristic floral-aldehyde fragrance notes. The floral bouquet, built around May rose and jasmine, is brightened with a top note of hesperides. The aldehydes make the perfume unique and the soft vanilla note gives it an infinitely sensual character.
